ARTIST STATEMENT
I draw my inspiration from our shifting world landscape, and current events. I live in the moment, and what I read is expressed in paint. A newspaper headline, a line from a poem, or a book are all reasons for me to pick up my brush. My paintings celebrate the connectedness and interdependence of human beings and nature.
In first memorable group art show Ekphrasis, artists created paintings inspired by poems. This was a turning point for me and opened up a world of self discovery and limitless possibilities of expressing my thoughts in the medium of paint. Take the written word and transform it into color, lines and forms. Constant movement, constant change of an unfolding story. A focus on figures and nature became a central part of my visual language.
On the canvas, my figures move through surreal space, bound together, embodying a range of human emotions, both joy, desperation, peace and conflict. Mass migrations, global warming, pandemic have all been subjects of my paintings.
My collaged works on paper and canvas contain actual clippings of the newspaper I was just been reading. I feel compelled to record these momentous events. I know, that what for me was a fleeting moment of interest, really represents a life changing upheaval for those who are the focus of the story. Lines from poems, evoke contemplative thought and the imagery shifts to nature.
I hope my work draws the attention of the viewer, make them pause and reflect, and interpret them with their own unique perspective.
